Meet Sarah Blas

Born in Brooklyn, New York – and raised by her parents, both veterans, and her grandfather, the late Bishop John B. Elliott. A celebrated pastor who dedicated his life to religious and nonprofit community service – Sarah Blas was so inspired by the beloved patriarch all her life that she automatically gravitated toward her calling of community stewardship and advocacy. Throughout her career, Sarah Blas has routinely opened government processes to people who have had difficulty being heard.

Sarah Blas, honored as The Staten Island Women of Achievement, is a formidable presence in her district. As both a business owner of Community Impact Strategies and a founder of a non-profit she dedicates her efforts in the workforce initiates and serves the community. 

Throughout her career, Sarah has been a relentless advocate for social justice, particularly focused on dismantling identity-based oppression within vulnerable communities. Her specialty lies in advocacy for folks with disabilities and general district advocacy, where she has made a significant impact. 

With over two decades of experience, Sarah is recognized as a thought leader in developing a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI-A) infused professional development curriculum.

Sarah's experience includes serving as the Executive Director of Staten Island Therapeutic Gardens, advocating for food sovereignty, and as the Director of Health and Wellness for House of Community, Baitul Jamaat. She has also held the position of Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion for Staten Island Women Who March.

Sarah has served as an elected member of the Community Education Council for District 31 all of Staten Island. Where she chaired both the Special Education and Diversity and Inclusion Committees. Her dedication and leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic earned her the esteemed title of Staten Island Woman of Achievement in 2020.

Her outstanding contributions have been recognized with numerous awards and honors, including Mayoral Citations, The State of NY Executive Chamber Gubernatorial Certificate of Recognition in 2021, and the Harriet Tubman Purple Hat Society honoree in 2020. Honor in Public Health from the Richmond County District Attorney's Office. City Council Citations 2018, 2019, and 2020.
